Getting Evicted
Having to worry about an eviction can be overwhelming and so we hope this information is helpful. Please note that you are not alone and that there are organizations like us (Cause Justa:: Just Cause) that can support you along the way. We are not a legal organization but we can tell you your rights and point you towards additional resources!
Depending on the eviction notice, you might need to write a response to your landlord to begin exercising your rights and ensure you get a fair, valid process. (3 day, 7 day, 30 day, 60 day, 90 day, etc.) If you do already know you want to write a response letter, you can look into letter templates or click below for more information. If you have a summons and complaint notice or an Unlawful detainer you will need to respond at the courthouse as soon as possible.
Please note that any verbal eviction or eviction written through text is not valid in any court and it does not start an eviction process!
*Tenants have additional protections against evictions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Visit our COVID-19 page for more information.*
